An honest impoverished man receives a home and guidance in exchange for returning a $10,000 check to the proprietor.
Most of us would like to think that if we found money on the ground, we would return it.
One man with nothing found an amount of money that would transform his life, and he didn’t waste any time in returning it to its legitimate owner.
Elmer Alvarez was on the streets when he found the $10,000 check in New Haven, Connecticut.
Elmer could have done whatever he wanted with that check because he had been dealt a poor hand in life, but he chose to return it to its rightful proprietor
As a consequence of his honesty, he ultimately started on a path that would improve his life.
The money belonged to broker Roberta Hoskie, who lost it at a busy intersection and was not informed of its loss until the next day. When Elmer found the check, his first reaction was, “I need to find this person.”
He stated he had not given thought to retaining the money for himself.
“Because I had resolved to alter my life, I never considered it. “I’ve been pure for three years,” Elmer told CBS News.
After discovering that the check had been returned, Roberta was determined to find Elmer and convey her gratitude.
“I expected to find a man all lovely, freshly shaved, and dressed in a blue suit,” she observed.
Instead, she encountered Elmer, who told Roberta that he was homeless and had brought a friend with him because his English wasn’t very good.
According to Roberta, it refuted stereotypes.
Elmer cried when Roberta presented him with a check as a thank-you gift.
In an attempt to dispel prevalent misconceptions about the homeless, Roberta aired her meeting with Elmer live on Facebook.
Roberta, a young mother who wound up in a shelter with only $400 per month to support herself and her son, is all too conscious of the various factors that can contribute to homelessness.
Roberta was able to rise out of poverty and now runs a multimillion-dollar real estate company.
Since the beginning of the year, Roberta has been assisting Elmer. Not only did she assist him in finding lodging and pay his rent for seven months, but she also paid for real estate school so he could work for her company.
Now, the two are planning to build a transitional house for homeless young adults and adolescents that will provide the services Elmer considered necessary.
“I have lived on the streets. Nobody should live their lives like that, he stated.
Elmer returned the cheque without expecting to be paid. Elmer now has the life he deserves as a result of people’s increasing appreciation for the human aspect of those forced to live on the streets.
When you help someone, they never forget and often repay the favor, as Roberta and Elmer are doing right now.
